Books Over TV

This month I'm excited about black romance, historical romance, urban fiction and always anything to do with Paris. However, Les Parisiennes is the story of the women who lived during the Nazi occupation. Not a light read, but one I'm sure to find informative. Hag-Seed is the retelling of William Shakespeare's The Tempest. I don't believe I've read that play so, this will be intriguing. The Other Einstein tells the story of Einstein's wife Mitza who was a physicist.

Have you heard, read or are excited for any of these September Releases?

These are the books I plan to read in September. I've been averaging 3-4 books a month, but I think I will be able to read these five. I'm hoping for seven by months end as these should be fast reads. 

My next post will be anticipated September releases. I'm hoping to choose two from that list.

These are the June releases that I'm most excited to read. I'm hoping I can get to all of them or most of them.  There are thrillers, historical and romance to chose from, my favorites. Are you excited for any of these reads?

I had a solid reading month. I had one 5 star read, three 4 star reads and one 3 star read. My favorite book of the month should come as no surprise with it being The Book of Harlan. I highly recommend and wish I could supply everyone with a copy. There's just so much in this one book. It doesn't disappoint. 

I thoroughly enjoyed Jane Steele and Glory Over Everything. These two were highly anticipated and were entertaining reads. I thought about Jane (from Jane Steele) and Jamie ( from GOE) long after I was done with their stories. 

In the 12th hour I decided to throw in some quick reads. All three were good. The Liszts pictures are so lovely and detailed. Even on my kindle I could tell they would be absolutely gorgeous in print. A Will and A Way was a quick and entertaining historical romance. And last I read the gut wrenching, hard hitting, detailed to a fault, Narrative of My Escape from Slavery. This book is in your face without pause or kindness. The bandaid is ripped of without the wound ever being healed.

I started The Girl From The Savoy last night, but received an email reminding me that Sugarland release date Is May 12. I said that I'd start it and if it captured me quickly I'd give it a go. Well, I will continue on with it and go back to TGFTS. So much has happened already!

Such a quick and concise account of the wretchedness and wickedness of slavery.

I'm excited for these reads. There's a classic, a couple WW2 reads, historical, historical romance and a book I read in April, that I loved, about two black jazz musicians in Paris who were captured and taken to a nazi concentration camp. I'm hoping that this lineup of awesome authors will ensure some fantastic reads this month.

What are you reading in May?

It says I have 23 minutes left. Whew! What a ride this has been. This story packs a big punch. More like punches. My hope is that those who choose to brave this story will do so with appreciation and admiration.

The only reason I stopped reading The Book of Harlan last night was my head falling over to the right and the kindle dropping from my hands.

The character development starts right away and I wanted to know what would happen to them. I was pulled in from the beginning. 

I only read two books from my March Maybe post. Both were 4 star reads. March was a very busy month as I decided to start a massive Spring Cleaning in the midst of helping my parents with some personal things.

I am elated that I have gone through clothes, books, closets, shoes, purses and kitchen ware and have purged away the clutter. Once I start something, any project, it completely takes over my life. I still have the daunting task of stove/oven cleaning and the dreaded TAXES. 

I am determined to stay focused and deliver on this goal of 6 books. They all seem right up my alley and engaging. If a book is dragging I will move on and not waste precious time lagging on it. Most times, I've realized, it is just bad timing. I wasn't in the mood to read the book at that time.

I'm enjoying this. I like how even though I have only seen Jane Eyre movie adaptations and have read other reimaginings, I can note the similarities brought into this story. I'm having difficulty reading on kindles and focusing. It's definitely me and not the book. I hope to finish today.

It would be grand if I could get to all 7 of these books in March. I tried to pick several different genres to keep things interesting. I'm truly excited for all of these books. 

I only read 3 books in January and 5 in February. I'm pleased thus far. I lowered my goal this year to 50 from 100. This year I want to read without pressure. I don't want to choose books based upon size and not content. I don't want to feel pressure with something that is supposed to be an enjoyment for me.
