I love to acquire, hoard, stack, shelve, smell, read and share books. I review books. I stare at books. You get it, right?

Loving it! There are multiple storylines with each character that keeps it interesting. There's the town itself and its people, the railroad, a horrible accident and freed blacks trying to educate at Fisk University.
I want Gage! Can I find a human with his character traits? Tonya and Gage's relationship is realistic, mature and slow (for romance novel). So nice to revisit the ladies friendship and to read about all the yummy Louisiana Cuisine. I'm a foodie and need to visit The Big Easy in the near future.
I love Kindred by Octavia Butler. I chose it for World Book Day, when the U. S. was participating, and everyone that I followed up with enjoyed it. So, when I heard that there was going to be a graphic novel of the book I was very hesitant to give it a try. I saw pics of the drawing on Instagram and wasn't impressed. Just like movie adaptations, I didn't want the graphic novel to taint my love and disappoint.
To my surprise, I'm really enjoying it! I have a few issues, but so far so good. I thought reading it would be a nuisance on a Kindle, but it working out great on my Fire 8.
I'm super excited that I was able to read 7 books this month. I've been struggling for a long while. My health and not having a good system in place has affected me greatly, but now I think I have a good one. I talked about it in a previous post. I will listen up to 5% of each book for the month and those that immediately grab my attention will go to the top of the list. And since I will already be interested, I will be able to move to the next book without hesitation.
4 Stars
Sin of a Woman
A Name Unknown

The Cartel 7
Where The Light Falls
3 Stars
Kiss The Ring
Seducing Abby Rhodes
About an hour ago I finished Where The Light Falls by Allison and Owen Pataki. It was an emotional 4 star read. Not what I'm accustomed to, but well with it! I will start The Diplomat's Daughter by Karin Tanabe tonight. I absolutely loved The Gilded Years. I'm excited to get to The Address by Fiona Davis and hope it lives up to all the hype. A weekend filled with historical fiction is a great one indeed.
What are you reading this weekend?
There are many more August releases than the ones I've chosen to read. In choosing books that interest me, I'm trying to discern if the writing and plot are enough. I've listened to about 2-5% in each of these books and know, thus far, we will do well.
I realize that it's best for me to get in with more than one book so, that I'm already interested to move on to the next. Reading one book at a time and then picking up another that doesn't hold my attention leaves me blank for days. I lose steam and dawdle. Already I have finished 6 books in July, with this method, and am so pleased. I could've read more if I would've adopted this way much sooner.
Here's the release dates for these books and others that aren't shown that I may read;
August 1
Gravel Heart by Abdulrazak Gurnah
The Address by Fiona Davis
Locked in Temptation by Brenda Jackson
Stay With Me by Ayobami Adebayo
Surrender to Me by Donna Hill
August 8
The Paris Spy by Susan Elia MacNeal
All is Beauty Now by Sarah Faber
To Wager Her Heart Tamera Alexander
A Promise of Ruin by Cuyler Overholt
August 15
Seeking Sarah by Roshanda Tate Billingsley
The Party by Elizabeth Day
The Wardrobe Mistress by Meghan Masterson
August 22
The Other Girl by Erica Spindler
August 29
Pretty, Nasty, Lovely by Rosalind Noonan
Breakfast in Bed by Rochelle Alers
This book is telling all kinds of truths. I think I started this series at book 5. I didn't feel lost because my cousin had read the first 3 ( I think) and told me about them. I want to go back and read 1-4 to familiarize myself with the characters and how The Cartel and its members got started. I want to and will own the entire series for my home library. The books are definitely re-readable.
I finished only one book in June. I was quite shocked. I've started many and am hopeful that July will be a better month for reading. I've been out of sorts personally and physically. However, this list of books are right up my street and I'm sure are going to be awesome reads. I'm revisiting favorite authors and genres.
First, I must say that this month is the month of beautiful covers. There's only a couple in this line up that don't scream, "Buy me!" Super thrilled for all the historical fiction from Bethany House Publishing. Y'all know how much I love my historical fiction. I'm revisiting some authors and enthusiastically picking up some reads by authors that are new to me. The two books that I'm eager to get into are Forbidden Fruit by Stanley Gazemba and A Fierce Love by Shauna Shanks. Both have awesome covers.
I'm a sucker for covers. I've been known to rebuy books with better covers. Most often I actually prefer UK covers to US. If you didn't know I prefer paperbacks to hardcovers. The aesthetic of hardcovers on the shelves are better, but hardcovers are heavy and cumbersome. Paperbacks feel better in my hands and are easier to transport. Okay, I've gone on tangent.
Are any of these awesome titles on your tbr?
May's a fantastic month for new releases! I'm truly excited for all of these reads. There are three books by favorite authors this month; The Prada Plan 5 by Ashley Antoinette, A Stranger At Fellsworth by Sarah E. Ladd and Rich Peoples Problems by Kevin Kwan. The Salt Houses, The Book of Summer and House of Names all have received lots of praise by early readers and critics. I'm hoping to enjoy them as much as others or more.
Here's the release dates;
May 2
Salt Houses by Hala Alyan
May 9
Mr. Rochester by Sarah Shoemaker
The Book of Summer by Michelle Gable
House of Names by Colm Tóibín
May 16
The Stranger at Fellsworth by Sarah E. Ladd
Lilli de Jong by Janet Benton
Before the Rain Falls by Camille Di Maio
The Prada Plan 5 by Ashley Antoinette
May 23
Rich Peoples Problems by Kevin Kwan
Happy Reading Friends!
I'm not meshing well with BOSS thus far to my utter disappointment. However, I read some reviews and this book is supposed to become riveting so, I will trudge forth and perhaps skim until I reach that point. I actually put it down and moved on to The Most Beautiful Woman in Florence: A Story about Botticelli by Alyssa Palombo.
I hope I can get another book read in the next 3 days. April has definitely been a hell of a month for me.
Finished another book by Jen Turano. I've enjoyed all the books I've read by her. Today I hope to immerse myself into the world of Boss. Tracy's books are usually emotional rollercoasters and I've been told Boss won't disappoint.
There are so many new releases in April. It's a big release month. I'm super excited for all of these. I have quite a few mystery books on the tbr and I don't read many mysteries. I'm trying to get out of my comfort zone. I even have a nonfiction. Usually these slow me down, but the early reviews of Killers of the Flower Moon lead me to think otherwise.
Can't wait to get to three reads by trusted 4-5 star rated Authors; Behind the Scenes by Jen Turano, Boss by Tracy Brown and Seized By Seduction by Beverly Jenkins. Tatiana De Rosnay has written a biography about Daphne Du Maurier. I know so many who absolutely adore Rebecca. I haven't read it, but am eager. However, once I learned that it may be plagiarized and that some feel none of her other books ever lived up to Rebecca I felt some kind of way about it.
What are your most anticipated April Releases? Do tell. Happy Reading!
Kaidan.... I read these books for Kaidan. Wendy Higgins is a good writer. I really have enjoyed this series.
